Fracking – From New York to Ohio

That’s right, fracking is coming to a city near you. Who doesn’t love high-tech geoengineering combined with environmentally destructive energy production all in the name of industry and progress? Well, for those with some concerns, you’re not alone.

I’ve been teaching an environmental politics course this fall here in my new home of New York, and my class has spent the better par of the two past weeks looking at the fracking process here in New York, which is currently under environmental review by the state Department of Environmental Conservation, or DEC. Long story short, fracking is overall bad news from an environmental perspective, and offers much needed but short term job in exchange for a huge amount of risk and long term negative impacts. So what to do?

I’ll be visiting Ohio over the late December-early January period and may be trying to organize some from New York to Ohio discussions about fracking, what’s happening here in New York, and what’s in store for Ohio in the future. If you’re interested in learning more about fracking, hearing more about what’s happening here in New York, or maybe even want to setup a talk or organizing meet-up, let me know. I’ll be between the Athens-Cleveland-Columbus circuit until late-mid January. You can contact me through the website contact link.

  1. Hi,

I’d be very interested in having you visit Athens. There’s a number of people and organizations that are trying to inform and organize people. I’m particularly interested in hearing about your experience with the fight for a moratorium and what our chances are in Ohio for that…

Please contact me through my email address.

    Thanks,
